eBay Plans 9% Workforce Cut, Affecting Around 1,000 Jobs
eBay plans to reduce its workforce by about 9%, with a company spokesperson telling Reuters on Wednesday, 21 October, that around 1,000 jobs will be eliminated.
Chief executive Jamie Iannone told employees in a memo reviewed by Reuters that the online marketplace wants to simplify its operations and direct resources towards its fastest-growing businesses. Staff affected by the changes are due to be informed in the coming days.
It follows a February reduction of about 800 roles, or 6% of staff, Reuters reported. The company employed 12,300 people at the end of 2025.
The latest cuts come as eBay concentrates on authenticated luxury goods, collectibles and refurbished products. Its second-quarter results showed revenue of $3.134 billion, up 15% from a year earlier, for the period ended 30 June.
eBay also completed its purchase of fashion-resale platform Depop on 30 July. The company said the deal strengthened its resale offering, adding a marketplace with an engaged Gen Z and Millennial audience.
